Forward

What follows are selected notes taken from the committee meeting diaries of the Green Island Junior Soccer Club as found in the Lockup (previously Shop) at Sunnyvale Combined Sports Stadium. I have recorded these notes to secure a historical record of the Club for future years.

My involvement with the club began initially in 1964 when I played as a junior for the Waldronville team. More recently, in February  2000 when I enrolled my son Neil into the 7th Grade. Disappointed in the chaotic registration, I started attending committee meetings primarily to improve future registration evenings. I was elected Treasurer a few years later and by default, Data coordinator due to my interest in computers.

Sunnyvale Sports Ground and Stadium was built atop of fill that covered a swamp & a refuse tip up the the early 1970s. The building and grounds has been the base of the Green Island Soccer Club since the Abbottsford Landslip which occurred in 1979.

The Club House appears to have been Miller Park, this would have been before the Abbotsford Landslip, (picture shows clubhouse at Miller Park after the landslip).

Miller Park - Following the 1979 landslip - the only known photo of the former Clubrooms & Grounds. Clubroom with the blue roof.

Senior Club

I have recorded the names from Photographs that were found in storage at Sunnyvale Sports Stadium. No other records for the Senior Club have been found. Senior Club information will be placed on another page.

Junior Club

It appears that the Junior teams was part of the Seniors. Early photos show they were an active part of the club. Clearly other local clubs had their Junior section as well, and that Saturday & Interclub competition was held during the season. There appears to have been some friction in the Green Island club between the two sections culminating with the a the formation of a Junior committee being formed in the early 1970s.
