Welcome to this June 2006 Newsletter

I hope everyone has enjoyed their first few games and you are all settled into the season. We have 16 teams with approx 200 children registered. Similar to last years enrolment The club has a web site www.gijsc.co.nz. On this site you will find a list of committee members, coaches, directions to all grounds that the teams play on, season dates as well as past photos and club history. It is well worth a visit.

A visiting Australian school team played our 12th Grade Gold team.Congratulations on your win !!

7 Aside Results
Dunedin weather excelled itself on the day of the seven aside yet again. (pity the week before it rained so much the tournament had to be postponed !) This tournament is the clubs major fundraiser for the year and has always been a lot of fun to participate in.
The staggered starting time has worked well and this year we were able to give participation certificates to all who competed and prize certificates to the top two teams in each grade. The results were ;

7th grade - Dunedin Technical All Stars
8th Grade - Mornington
9th Grade - Dunedin Technical Rascals
10th Grade - Maori Hill White
11th Grade - Northern
12th Grade - Dunedin Technical Eagles
13th Grade - Green Island Gold

A big thank you to Green Island Design and Print, Impact Roofing and Plumbing and Murray & Daniel Marsh at Green Island Maintenance Centre for their sponsorship of the event. A huge thank you those parents who helped with the preparation and cleaning up as well as the BBQ and stalls.

Committee
Committee meetings are held once a month. If a parent or team representative wishes to attend the meeting please contact Shayne McDonald (488 0085). Minutes of all meetings can be found on our web site. For any change of address or email please contact John at jhw@xtra.co.nz.or tel. 489 3111..

Upcoming Events
Our Team Photo night will be Friday 23rd June. Photos will be $10.
Fun Night Friday 21st July . All children welcome for fun and games !(Inside games –not soccer !)
Sponsored Goal Day 22nd July. Children will be asked to get sponsors for the total number of goals scored by the club that Saturday. A prize will be given to the team that raises the most money.

Otago Representatives
Congratulations to all the children chosen to represent their age group for Otago. The full results are not in so we do not want to list all the names yet. It is a great experience to be able to play for your province. We wish you all well.

New Goal Nets
I hope you have all noticed the new goal nets put up just in time for the 7 a-side. All shots on goal will now stay in the net, as long as children refrain from standing, jumping leaning or sitting on them.
Could all parents please keep an eye on the nets and. keep any children from doing the above activities with them. Your help in this would be much appreciated.

World Cup Germany 2006
Kick off is June 10th! While the live games are on a bit too late for most adults you might be able to see some live action at 7am. It is a great chance to see some amazing soccer players so we hope the children will be able to see as much as possible. Perhaps tape the highlights package for them? Last World Cup the USA goalie was very entertaining to watch.

Thanks
The committee

General

1.      Discussed the preparations for the 7-a-side. Tents are sorted. Cooking schedule is going slowly. Scott is organizing the food. Pipes for the goals should arrive from Impact plumbing in the next week. Certificates are arranged.

2.  Uniform quotes have been sorted and all players should now have a new uniform.

3. $82.50 to purchase 6 complete sets of new keys.

4. It was only the new coaches that turned up to the coaches and committee night. It will be worth repeating it for any new coaches next year. If a better turn out is wanted it would be an idea to combine the coach night with gear pick up. This would also cut down on nights out for all.

5. Next year for registration nights we need a complete list of on line registrations so any no shows can be contacted.

6. We will all meet at Sunnyvale at 9am, just before the next meeting to organize the goals for the 7-a-side.

So thanks again for all your hard work and your knowledge of local contacts. We all wish you, Daniel and Hannah the best for the future.

Terry Parle (2005 13th Grade coach) will be coaching the Roslyn 1st Grade Seniors next year therefore he is unable to coach for us but he has offered to run some courses for our club next season.  We need to ascertain earlier next year who is keen to coach and try to organise a get together prior to the teams being sorted.  Shayne suggested we should also aim to use some of the senior club players to coach or to help coaches with drills etc. and we could also ask Andrew Higgs (Sports Academy) to help recruit some coaches if necessary.
